Please, save the date for our upcoming breakfast event on ”Durable wood construction in the public realm” on 1 March 2023 at 8:30 am.
The use of wood as a building material has increased significantly during the last few years as the idea of a circular, and biobased economy has grown. Wood is seen as the solution for a more climate-friendly way to build housing and infrastructure. Indeed building with wood even capture and store carbon and have also proven to have positive effects on users’ and inhabitants’ health and well-being.
Using a biobased and circular building material in the public realm is much more demanding compared to the traditionally used steel and concrete. To be able to use the full potential of Europe’s forests as a source of building material and to use it wisely, we need to make sure that the wood products are fit for purpose, treated and handled correctly during design and use. Without the development of building systems, education and the proper use of wood preservatives, we risk missing out on the objective of a circular, biobased and sustainable society.
With these aspects in mind, what should European policymakers do to stimulate and support this development?
More information and the invitation to RSVP will be sent closer to the event.
