The European Wood Protection Association (EWPA), formerly known as the European Institute for Wood Preservation (WEI-IEO), is the leading industry association dedicated to promoting the sustainable use, preservation, and protection of wood and wood products across Europe.
Founded in 1951 and based in Brussels, EWPA represents manufacturers, practitioners, and stakeholders in the wood treatment industry, advocating for best practices in durability, environmental stewardship, and technological innovation. Our membership, open to companies aligning with our objectives and meeting specified criteria, comprises over 150 member companies across Europe.
EWPA provides a central platform for industry advancements, offering technical, commercial, and legal guidance. We work to enhance wood preservation science and technology, uphold stringent quality and safety standards, and advocate for practical regulations that support the industry’s long-term sustainability.
Our efforts include lobbying for fair and effective legislation, establishing quality benchmarks for wood preservatives and treated timber, and engaging in research and development to drive innovation in wood treatment methods. As a key consultative body within the European wood protection sector, we produce technical documents, guidance, and newsletters to keep our members informed about industry developments.
Through collaboration with national and international organisations, EWPA drives the adoption of environmentally responsible practices and cutting-edge solutions. With a commitment to excellence in wood durability and environmental performance, we actively support the circular economy and the responsible use of wood in construction, infrastructure, and beyond.
We welcome companies and organisations that share our values to join us in shaping a more sustainable future through the effective and responsible use of wood.
